One thing that upset both parents was the way he was developing intellectually. His speech was so delayed that he did not begin to speak until he was 3 or 4 years old and not fluency until he was nine. Even with lack of speech development, he still managed to be one of the top students at the elementary school he attended.

Looking back, researchers at Oxford and Cambridge Universities feel that Albert showed signs of one form of Autism called Asperger’s Syndrome .

Many who have been diagnosed with Asperger’s are thought to be eccentric. They seem to lack social skills and seem to be obsessed with topics that are complex, and they may have issues communicating with others.
